SaaS SEO in Chennai — Built for Buyers Who Already Asked an AI First

Chennai is India's second-largest IT and ITES exporter and its product companies sell to buyers who have never heard of the city. Local SEO is irrelevant to them. Comparison content and citation work are not.

In short

SaaS buyers research with AI tools before they reach your site, and Perplexity leans on Reddit, LinkedIn and G2 for B2B answers. Chennai is India's second-largest IT/ITES exporter. Oniv publishes SaaS SEO from ₹35,000 a month; our Growth tier is the same figure and ₹60,000 with citation tracking.

The buyer has already asked a chatbot

A software buyer in 2026 does not start on Google with a category term. They ask an assistant which tools do the thing, get a shortlist of four, and only then start searching — for those four names, for comparisons between them, and for reasons not to buy them. If you were not in the shortlist, the rest of your SEO is competing for the consolation traffic.

That changes where the work goes. The pages that decide a SaaS shortlist are comparison pages, alternatives pages, integration and use-case pages, pricing, and documentation — and the sources AI systems draw on for B2B answers are disproportionately Reddit, LinkedIn and G2 rather than vendor sites. A Chennai SaaS company with a beautiful marketing site, no G2 profile and no presence in the communities where its category is discussed will keep losing to a worse product with both.

What to build, in the order it pays

For a product company with a working site and no serious content programme yet.

PriorityAssetWhat it does
1Comparison pages: you versus each real competitorCatches the highest-intent search in the category and is exactly what an AI shortlist query retrieves
2Alternatives pages for the incumbent everyone namesThe person searching “alternatives to X” has already decided to leave X
3Pricing page with actual numbersRemoves you from consideration when it is missing; SaaS buyers filter on it before they demo
4Use-case and integration pagesLong tail with real intent, and the pages a buyer sends to their own team
5Documentation that is indexable and readableDocs rank for problem-shaped queries and get cited by AI systems answering them
6G2, Capterra and category directory profilesPerplexity leans on G2 for B2B answers; a missing profile is a missing shortlist slot
7A named human in the communitiesReddit, YouTube and LinkedIn are among the most-cited domains across AI search. Answer questions; do not post launches
Blog volume is deliberately absent. Category blogging is the slowest asset on this list and usually the first one an agency sells.

Attribution, because you will be asked

Chennai SaaS founders are the most attribution-literate buyers we deal with, and rightly so — they run paid acquisition and know what a channel should cost. Two honest statements about SEO attribution. First, organic will be under-credited by any last-click model, because it does the reading phase and hands a warm buyer to a branded search or a direct visit. Second, an agency claiming precise revenue attribution for SEO in a multi-touch B2B funnel is overclaiming, and you should be as suspicious of that as of a rankings guarantee.

What we report instead: organic sessions to the pages that matter, demo and trial starts from organic, branded search volume over time as a proxy for awareness, and the AI citation rate on your category prompts. Branded search growth is the metric most under-used in Indian SaaS — when a category is being discussed somewhere you are not, your branded volume stays flat while your competitors' rises, and that shows up months before the pipeline does.

SaaS SEO questions

Does a SaaS company need local SEO in Chennai?

Barely. Software buyers are rarely in your postcode, so map-pack position contributes nothing to pipeline. A complete Business Profile is still worth an hour for entity resolution and recruitment. The budget belongs in comparison content, documentation and citation work across the engines your buyers actually research with.

What does SaaS SEO cost in Chennai?

Oniv publishes SaaS SEO from ₹35,000 a month, which is also where our Growth tier sits. With the 30-prompt AI citation programme it is ₹60,000. Indian GEO-only retainers start at ₹75,000 according to upGrowth's 2026 benchmark, so bundling the citation work below that is deliberate.

Should we write comparison pages against competitors?

Yes, and write them fairly — including where the competitor is genuinely better. A comparison page that never concedes anything reads as marketing and gets discounted by readers and by AI systems summarising the category. The credibility is the point, which is the same argument behind our own agency comparison page.

How do we get cited by Perplexity and ChatGPT?

Be in the sources they use. For B2B that means G2 and category directories, Reddit and LinkedIn discussion under a named human, documentation that answers problem-shaped questions, and comparison content on your own site. Then measure it as a rate across 10 runs per prompt rather than screenshotting one good answer.

Is blogging worth it for a SaaS company?

Less than you have been told, and later than you have been told. Comparison, alternatives, pricing, use-case and documentation pages all outrank category blogging on intent and speed. Blog when you have something specific to say, or when the category has a question nobody has answered properly.

How do you attribute SEO revenue in a B2B funnel?

Honestly, and imprecisely. Last-click under-credits organic because it does the reading phase and hands over a branded visit. We report organic sessions to key pages, demo and trial starts, branded search volume over time, and the AI citation rate. Anyone promising precise multi-touch SEO revenue attribution is overclaiming.
